Post Equine Affaire…

Ohio Equine Affaire is now history. I was on hand Saturday to talk to folks as part of the Life’s Little Adventures Farm horse rescue and rehab. As an author I signed books and introduced many potential readers to the star of the next Backyard Horse Tale.

Love is a weanling filly when her story begins. She narrates her tale as a memoir that spans over thirty three years. She gets in one scrape after another and gets a new barn name while still a yearling. Folks who stopped to talk were given a handout to download a preview of the first two chapters of “Don’t Call Me Love.”

The target release date for Love’s book is May 20, 2017. “Don’t Call Me Love” will be available in paperback and hardcover. Due to the pirating of previous e-books, this tale will not be offered as an e-book. I apologize to e-book readers who actually pay for their reads, but it often takes several years to take a book from concept to print. During the process, author’s pay for editing, cover design, copyrighting, cost of ISBN’s, and printing costs. In the case of illustrated chapter books, author’s also pay the illustrators.

Sox’s tale is five years old and has embarked on a new adventure. Sox and I are working with elementary school classes and libraries to develop programs for young readers to improve their love of reading and writing. Young readers are given Sox’s Book to read. Discussion follows, and the challenge for the young readers is to jot down or write their ideas for a sequel. The question is what happens to our two main characters at a given future date.

Those interested in setting up this program contact me at talesbyjackie@gmail.com

Other Backyard Horse Tales in the works, more on that in a later post.

Thanks to all our faithful fans, you light up our lives.

Keep an eye on the Backyard Horse Tales Fan page, for a special preview offer of “Don’t Call Me Love. https://www.facebook.com/Backyard-Horse-Tales-190283981002767/

Friends and fans frequently ask me how I came up with Half Appy Press. The simple truth is we needed a name that was not already taken. After several false starts, names that had already been taken, I came up with one that my research didn’t turn up. I registered it with the State of Ohio. They checked it and issued a certificate for DBA. Okay, the name is a composite. Half belongs to my Haflinger filly, the Appy resides with all my beloved Appaloosas, and the Press is the printing process. Sandy Shipley designed the logo.
I am always available for speaking engagements, events, and book signings. Use the contact tab of the Half Appy Press website listed in the above paragraph to inquire about dates or just to chat.

Tired of money grubbing powers that be letting their social media sites be a stage for the worst our society has to offer? Me too.
The following post and header is now on three of my longtime Facebook pages.

facebook-good-bye-2“Facebook has long not been worth time spent. It has also become a social media dump for hate mongers, fake news, and horrendous live feeds. The characters and story of Casey and JD in “Cassandra: Night Shades” had been created for a totally different timeline. They sat locked in my files for nearly a decade before the characters demanded to brought into the light and underwent a contemporary makeover. Folks from Cleveland’s western suburbs will recognize the setting for Casey’s formative years. Cassandra was released March 21, 2016 and will remain at the pre-order through April 30th. March Madness on the marketing front….

Marketing step #1: Design a cover photo for the new Facebook entity Half Appy Press.

Untitled designStep 2: Develop a post.

Step 3: Invite friends from my profile, as Jackie, to friend HAP’s Page. Not as easy as you may think. I get oodles of requests to friend or like a page daily, and often finding the time to look at all the requests get a bit overwhelming. That said the friends are trickling in.

Step 4: Promote: Half Appy Press FB: https://www.facebook.com/halfappy.press tweet it, and post the link on my Facebook profile. This all happened yesterday while I was working on building a new website for HAP. The announcement of the website provided my second post for Facebook.

Half Appy Press was set up as a DBA to make a home for my adult novels written as J.M. Anton.
I was really tired of paying other POD publishers huge bucks to layout and print my books. I have always had a problem relinquishing control over my creative process and was rarely satisfied with the results.

As a member of IBPA I researched until I found Ingram Spark, and the rest is now recent history.
The learning curve was huge. Missteps were more than a few, but I’m getting a handle on it.

Half Appy Press has published three of J.M.’s adult works: two novellas in the “Troubles in Love-Land Series,” and the soon to be released novel Cassandra: Night Shades.
