2017 Facebook is out. Find out why.

Tired of money grubbing powers that be letting their social media sites be a stage for the worst our society has to offer? Me too.
The following post and header is now on three of my longtime Facebook pages.

facebook-good-bye-2“Facebook has long not been worth time spent. It has also become a social media dump for hate mongers, fake news, and horrendous live feeds. Most recently the beating and torture of a mentally disabled young man. This site and my other FB pages will no longer be active. I will not disable them, so the names on the sites can’t be used by others.

Good bye my FB friends. You can still follow this horsewoman and author on my blog. http://jackieanton.com or on Twitter https://twitter.com/backyardhorse .”

Cleveland connections round two…..

This update on the Cleveland and Northeastern Ohio connection conundrum in regards to locations in my published works is a few months later than anticipated. The marketing idea kept rolling around in the back of my overtaxed brain while my life spiraled out of control.

Our grandchildren stayed with us this past summer. Now both their mom and her sister have passed their fortieth birthdays. It has been a few decades since my husband and I have had to ferry kids to tennis, ballgames, or other commitments. By the time they returned to Houston for school we were a bit ragged and frayed around the edges. I was slipping farther behind my writing and marketing goals.

Early September I was informed by the administrator of the Parma Snow Road Library that my books, “Wind River Refuge” and “Cassandra:Night Shades” had been selected for the Indie Author Conference and Showcase on Saturday November 12, 2016. I had to decide how to handle the local aspect of my work to attract the folks browsing those of us participating in the showcase during the afternoon.

Two weeks prior to the event I found on Shutterstock what I thought would fit the bill, and purchased a large size of the selected background page for the following 6 feet tall banner.

follow-our-heroinesCanva allowed me to upload the Cleveland background and overlay my cover images. The text selections on Canva worked well for adding a blurb at the top.

Well the results proved successful, and I now have both books in new reader’s hands. A good start for attracting Holiday book buyers.

Another update on the Cassandra front: the new laminated hardcover proof arrived on the day before the Showcase. I will okay the proof on Monday, and hope to have have it in time for some of the Christmas shoppers.

Update you soon on special package deals.

Thanks for visiting.

March Madness on the marketing front….

Marketing step #1: Design a cover photo for the new Facebook entity Half Appy Press.

Untitled designStep 2: Develop a post.

Step 3: Invite friends from my profile, as Jackie, to friend HAP’s Page. Not as easy as you may think. I get oodles of requests to friend or like a page daily, and often finding the time to look at all the requests get a bit overwhelming. That said the friends are trickling in.

Step 4: Promote: Half Appy Press FB: https://www.facebook.com/halfappy.press tweet it, and post the link on my Facebook profile. This all happened yesterday while I was working on building a new website for HAP. The announcement of the website provided my second post for Facebook.

Half Appy Press was set up as a DBA to make a home for my adult novels written as J.M. Anton.
I was really tired of paying other POD publishers huge bucks to layout and print my books. I have always had a problem relinquishing control over my creative process and was rarely satisfied with the results.

As a member of IBPA I researched until I found Ingram Spark, and the rest is now recent history.
The learning curve was huge. Missteps were more than a few, but I’m getting a handle on it.

Half Appy Press has published three of J.M.’s adult works: two novellas in the “Troubles in Love-Land Series,” and the soon to be released novel Cassandra: Night Shades.

Jackie Anton 2015author photo 2ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Last year began a new marketing effort for Ms. Anton. The marketing hat isn’t as comfortable as her role as a writer, but with three award winning books the sales online lag far behind sales at events and book signings. With the expansion of Smashwords global reach she will try to expand her online marketing in 2016. Keep your eye on this blog for updates. Author Anton also added speaking engagements to her schedule last year, along with visits to book clubs, and scheduled events. She is now scheduling for the first half of 2016 and will travel. Marketing 101 at odds with writing……

Time for an update on my 2015 marketing exploits. Earlier today I read a post on another blog where advice was given to an aspiring writer who wanted to know where to start with a published work. The blogger’s advice was to “just write.”

That sounds kind of trite, but then the pearls of wisdom, “hold yourself accountable.” One thing that I picked up on was to create a blogging and writing calendar with project deadlines.

Okay, I created this blog and my writing project calendar. Writing related topics on Thursdays, Sunday odds and ends, and Tuesdays horse related topics. Wednesdays are usually my marketing day. Since each week only has seven days that leaves me only three to dedicate to develop new manuscripts, revise existing works, and edit. Somewhere five books are waiting to be reviewed.

Oh! I forgot that I have to finish the book trailer for “Uncharted Storms.” A small disclaimer here: the collection of short stories and its stormy cover had absolutely zero to do with the record-breaking winter and early spring of 2015. I will cover some of the problems involved with making your own video book trailer in a later post.

On my Calendar for the last half of March.

A six week fiction workshop begins at the Brook Park Library next Wednesday evening. In addition to learning and networking with other writers, which I hope will prime the writing pump, this workshop could also fall under the marketing end of things.
